Chandigarh, June 19: Mercury plummeted by several degrees after heavy rains lashed the region even as many places in Himachal Pradesh received showers today. The city witnessed a partially cloudy day today and the the maximum dropped by six degrees here recording 32.6 degree celsius. The Union Territory of Chandigarh and most places in Punjab and Haryana were lashed by rain yesterday after experiencing hot weather for the past fortnight.

Ambala recorded 34 degrees celsius, Patila 32.4, Ludhiana 34 and Amritsar 37.2 degrees celsius respectively.


Shimla was the coolest place in the region recording a two degrees below normal high of 21.7 degrees celsius receiving light showers today.


Rain lashed many towns in Himachal Pradesh with Rampur receiving 8.4 mm, Pandoh 0.5 mm and Sunni 1.0 mm.
