Srinagar, Feb 8: With India and Pakistan agreeing to hold talks in the last week of March on the proposed reopening of the Srinagar- Muzaffarabad road, the Jammu and Kashmir government has drawn a comprehensive plan for the development and beautification of the twin towns of Baramulla and Uri as the gateways of Kashmir valley.
The plan for remodeling the twin towns on modern lines would be implemented in a phased manner within a set time frame. This was announced at a joint meeting of the district administration and prominent citizens convened here by minister for finance and planning Muzaffar Hussain Baig.
Speaking on the occasion the minister said that the proposed reopening of the road link between Srinagar and Muzaffarabad would boost the tourist influx and commuter inflow to Baramulla and Uri for which adequate facilities need to be created.
He asked the district administration to chalk out a coordinated plan within a month, for development and beautification of the twin towns. The proposal should encompass holistic development of the Baramulla town with adequate boarding and lodging facilities, good road network, shopping complexes, truck terminals, guest houses, restaurants, community halls and proposals for beautification of the town.
Baig suggested launching a plantation drive alongside the banks of river Jhelum in the town besides mini parks and flower beds and adequate lighting facilities. Baig said tourist resourts would be developed at Gujjar Sangri, Khadanyar, Sheri, Boosiyan and Azad Gunj with adequate recreational facilities like parks, gardens, guest houses and restaurants.
