Mumbai Police have arrested a top militant, who claimed to be affiliated to the suicide squad of international terrorist Osama bin Laden's Al-Qaida outfit, Maharashtra deputy chief minister Chhagan Bhujbal announced in the state legislative assembly in Nagpur on Thursday. Making a ‘Suo Motu’ statement in the house, Bhujbal, who holds the home portfolio, said that Mohammad Afroz Abdul Razzak was detained for interrogation by police on suspicion on October 2 and formally arrested on December 3. Offences under relevant sections of IPC were registered against him.
During interrogation, it was revealed that Razzak had frequently visited Australia, USA, United Kingdom, Hongkong and China between 1997 and 2001, Bhujbal said.
Razzak told police that four suicide squads were formed by Al-Qaida network to carry out attacks on the World Trade Centre, New York, British Parliament, London, Romal Tower in Australia and Parliament House in New Delhi and that he was in one of the squads meant for attack in Britain.
He had taken admission for pilot training on the basis of false education certificate, at Melbourne Flying Academy, at Texas and London for flying boeing aircraft.
