Samajwadi Party (SP) president Mulayam Singh Yadav on Tuesday accused Uttar Pradesh governor Vishnu Kant Shastri of giving a ''blind eye'' to the constitutional provisions and traditions by purposely keeping the SP away from power despite the latter emerging as the single largest party following the assembly elections. Yadav told newspersons that Shastri was, in fact, ''devising a strategy to get President's rule imposed in the state''.

He said the people had given their verdict decisively in favour of the SP which alone should be invited to form the government.

''People's mandate should not be disrespected like this'', he added.

The SP chief alleged that it was a conspiracy by the BJP to carry out its ''indirect rule'' in UP by imposing President's rule here. He alleged that the caretaker government of Rajnath Singh was misusing official machinery. Even ministers and MLAs who lost the elections were continuing to use their privileges even as the newly-elected ones were being ignored, he added.

Yadav said the SP would organise dharnas all over the state against the ''indifferent attitude'' of the governor towards the party by not inviting it to form the government.
