New Delhi, Dec 16: Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani today cautioned BJP members against attempts by opposition to obstruct important legislation slated to be taken up in Parliament in the coming days in the wake of their electoral defeats in the recent assembly elections. Chairing the Parliamentary Party meeting of BJP in the absence of Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee here, Advani said, "Due to defeats in the recent assembly elections the opposition might try to obstruct important legislation in Parliament to embarrass the party."
Advani also referred to Bhutan launching operation against North-East insurgent groups operating from that country and Bodo militants laying down arms and said these were "good signs for the nation," according to BJP spokesman V K Malhotra.
The Deputy Prime Minister said the party was in an upbeat mood ever since the electoral victories in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chattisgarh and "the health was very good and we should keep it up”.
Addressing the meeting, BJP president M Venkaiah Naidu said the party would be launching a fortnight long "Vijay Vikas Parv" from December 25 coinciding with the birthday of Vajpayee as part of its preparations for Lok Sabha polls next year.
According to Malhotra, Naidu said with about eight months for the polls, the party should accelerate the exercise, which enabled it to secure electoral victories in three assemblies.
Malhotra said the party has also issued a whip to members to be present in the House in the next two days when two crucial legislation, including Pota Amendment Bill, are to be taken up. Bureau Report
