New Delhi, Sept 29: In view of the prevailing security scenario, India has gone ahead to accelerate the indigenous production of its most advanced aircraft SU-30 MKI, with the first of the aircraft scheduled to roll out by December 2004, Airforce Chief S Krishnaswamy said today. The Air Chief said the main assembly and airframe of the aircraft would be undertaken at HAL, Nasik, while its sub-systems including engines would be made at HAL, Koraput in Orissa and in Hyderabad. India, in a multi billion dollar deal, is to acquire 50 of these thrust vector aircraft in fly away conditions from Russia and assemble another 150 at Hindustan Aeronautics Limited. IAF has already acquired two squadrons of SU-30 MKI and is all set to send the earlier su-30 aircraft acquired in 1998 for upgradation to MKI standards.
On British Hawk AJT, Krishnaswamy said that the Jaguar assembly lines at HAL Bangalore will be upgraded for the manufacture of Hawk.
The CCS recently cleared 1.2 billion dollars to acquire 26 Hawk-115 Y trainers in fly-away conditions and to assemble 41 others at HAL, Bangalore.
