Britain has welcomed Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat's call for a halt to anti-Israeli attacks, and urged Israel to pull back its troops and end its policy of targetted assassinations.

"It's the responsibility of the Palestinian Authority to crack down on terror networks, including arresting terrorist suspects," a spokesman for British Prime Minister Tony Blair said on Sunday. "Yasser Arafat's statement is very welcome and obviously we look at him to deliver on that," he added.
Arafat's televised address on Sunday called for an end to anti-Israeli attacks by radical Palestinian groups. He also appealed to Israel to end its "ferocious" war against the Palestinian people. The British spokesman urged the Israelis to respond.
"The EU calls on the Israelis to withdraw their military forces and to stop extrajudicial executions," he said. Bureau Report
