The Sri Lankan government is to hold its first face-to-face talks with Tamil Tiger rebels in the first week of May, Justice Minister G L Peiris said on Wednesday.
He said the government of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and the rebel Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) were keen to open negotiations at the earliest.
Peiris declined to confirm the venue for the talks. But official sources said Thailand would almost certainly be the host for the historic negotiations brokered by Norway. Bureau Report
