Kochi, July 31: Three writ petitions seeking CBI investigation into the May 2 Marad violence, which claimed nine lives, were withdrawn with the Kerala High Court's permission today after almost the entire day was spent by the court hearing the case. The bench comprising Chief Justice J L Gupta and Justice A K Basheer directed the police to keep their 'eyes and ears open' and stated that if the petitioners have any cause of complaint, they could approach the court at a later stage.
The hearings commenced in the morning in a thickly-packed court.
The crime branch team, which investigated the case, was present in the court and the bench was satisfied with the replies of the team. IG (crimes), Mahesh Kumar Singla, who led the team, said Chief Minister A K Antony had given him a 'free hand' in the probe.
