The person who tipped off the police about the threat to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Rajnath Singh from a human bomb had been detained even as the security to Singh was further tightened with no one being allowed to garland or shake hands with him during election meetings, a senior police official said on Sunday. Padduman Singh, who tipped off the police about the conversation between two persons on using a human bomb against Singh, had been detained and was being questioned, senior Superintendent of Police B B Bakshi told reporters.
Singh, working in a shop in Kaiserbagh area, had heard two persons talking about killing the chief minister using a human bomb.
We are trying to gather details of the conversation between two persons, who reportedly discussed use of a human bomb against the chief minister over a mobile phone on Saturday, Bakshi said.
Investigations have revealed that two suspected persons had tried to hire a house in the state capital two days ago, he said. Padduman Singh also mentioned the name of one Shoiab Akhtar, who, the conspirators said, was ready to strike as a human bomb, Bakshi said.
Meanwhile security of the chief minister was reviewed and had been further tightened, he said adding from now onwards no one would be allowed to garland or shake hands with Singh.
