Washington, Apr 26: The United States has asked the World Bank to reduce and streamline its staff to enhance the financial body's efficiency in its operations. The staff and administrative budget of the Bank have increased significantly during the last two years. In order to ensure that as many develoment dollars as possible actually reach the world's poor, it is important that the Bank demonstrate efficiency, discipline and prudence in its own operations," US Treasury Secretary John Snow told the Development Committee of the IMF and World Bank.
For that reason," said Snow, "we recommend the recent budgetary discipline demonstrated by the IMF and propose that the Bank's administative budget follow a similar course." Bureau Report
