Guwahati, Nov 22: Another four towns were today put under indefinite curfew in upper Assam's Tinsukia and Dibrugarh districts with tension running high following the fresh killing of 12 Biharis, which took the toll to 46. Official sources said that indefinite curfew was clamped on Bordubi, Kakopathar, Dholla and Makum in Tinsukia district from 4:00 pm.
With this the total number of towns under curfew rose to twelve.
Earlier areas in and around Tinsukia town, besides Dibrugarh's Duliajan, Namrup, Moran, Khowang, Tengakhat and Tingkhong and in lower Assam's Nalbari district had been brought under curfew.
Tinsukia's new Deputy Commissioner Sanjay Lohia and Superintendent of Police A P J Barua, appointed following the transfer of the earlier DC and suspension of the SP, took charge this evening.
High tension prevailed in the district following the gunning down of eleven Bihari migrant labourers by the ULFA at two brick kilns near the Mahakali and Lankesh tea estates in Bordubi police station area.
Another Bihari was killed in a group clash in Kakopathar area of Dibrugarh district.
Three companies of BSF were deployed in Tinsukia and Dibrugarh district since morning besides five columns of the army in Tinsukia.
