Midnapore (WB), Feb 05: BJP leader and Union minister Tapan Sikdar today announced that his party and the Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress would jointly contest the Panchayet elections slated for may in West Bengal.
Addressing a public rally at Keshiary near here Sikdar, Union minister of state for small scale industries and development of north eastern region, said the BJP, Trinamool and like-minded parties needed to jointly contest the Panchayet elections to defeat the Left Front. He also said there was no misunderstanding now between him and Mamata Banerjee.
He claimed that differences between him and the Trinamool chief had cropped up because of 'wrong reports by the media'.
"Banerjee has also realised that there is no alternative to NDA," he said.
He said seats adjustments for the Panchayat elections will be made after discussions between the leaders of both parties.
