Jammu, May 11: De-mining work is in full swing in the frontier region of Jammu and Kashmir with 70 per cent of it already completed along the 190 km long international border, BSF sources said today. "Nearly 68 to 70 per cent de-mining has been completed in samba, R S Pura and Hiranagar areas during the last five months", the sources told a news agency here. Nearly 90 per cent de-mining has been completed in R.S.Pura, 80 per cent in Samba and 35 to 40 per cent in Hiranagar, along the IB, the sources said.

"The operation is in full swing, as military engineers are working overtime to remove mines from agricultural fields along the border", they said. Two types of mines - anti-tank mines and anti-personnel mines - were laid along the IB in agriculture fields during Operation Parakram in December 2001.

Full precautions are being taken during the operation as so far 17 people have lost their lives and 42 were injured in de-mining. On Pakistan side, the sources said, 34 to 40 per cent demining has taken place.
