Perth, Feb 12: Ryder Cup star Sergio Garcia is hoping to rewrite golf's history books in 2003. The Spaniard has set himself the aim of winning both the US and European Tour Order of Merit titles this season.
His bold prediction comes on the eve of the Johnnie Walker Classic in Perth, where he finished third last year. Garcia, still only 23, won the opening event on the US Tour last year but eventually finished 12th. He performed marginally better in Europe, finishing third in the Johnnie Walker Classic and winning the Spanish Open to end in sixth place on the money list.

"I want to try to win both the US and European Order of Merits this year," he said. "It is a tough thing to do, I know, and I will just try to be as high as I can."
He added: "My goals are pretty much the same as always and that is to keep being as consistent as I have been the last two to three years and give myself chances to win.
"If I am able to take those chances, it will be another good year."

South Africa's world number two Ernie Els heads the field for the Johnnie Walker Classic, a week after successfully defending his Heineken Classic title in Melbourne.

Defending champion Retief Goosen is also competing, as are Nick Faldo, who was second to Els in Melbourne, and Ian Woosnam, winner of the event in 1996.
