Jhalawar (Rajasthan), June 13: Congress president Sonia Gandhi today hit out at the Vajpayee government at the Centre saying its "anti-farmers and anti-people" policies had made lives of people miserable. "Poverty and unemployment are the biggest enemies of the people but the NDA government is pursuing policies which will add to these problems," Gandhi told a huge farmers rally here. Gandhi, who is on a two-day tour of Rajasthan to assess drought relief works, said poor people and farmers were the worst victims of the policies being pursued by the Centre. Accusing the Vajpayee government of making false electoral promises, Gandhi said only Congress was fulfilling its poll promises and not betraying the electorate. "The Congress governments in various states are giving utmost attention to fulfilling the promises made in the election manifesto of the party," she said. Gandhi said Congress got the "affection and cooperation of the people because we give attention to the interests of all the sections of the society." On the drought situation in Rajasthan, she alleged that "despite our repeated requests, the Centre failed to give adequate assistance to the desert state reeling under worst drought conditions".
