Dhaka, July 06: Myanmar's foreign minister Win Aung did not talk about detained pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi during meetings with Bangladeshi leaders today, an official said. ``He did not explain it, and we did not want to know about it,'' Bangladesh foreign secretary Shamser Mobin Chowdhury said.
Win Aung arrived in the Bangladesh capital Dhaka late Saturday as part of a South Asian tour amid worldwide outrage over Suu Kyi's latest detention.
Dhaka sees Suu Kyi's detention as ``an internal matter'' for Myanmar, also known as Burma.
``We do not make comments on the internal situation of another country,'' Chowdhury said.
Win Aung handed over a letter from Myanmar's military ruler, senior General Than Shwe, to Bangladesh Prime Minister Khaleda Zia.
The letter's contents were not disclosed.
Relations between Bangladesh and Myanmar have improved in recent months after the two leaders exchanged visits.
Win Aung also met with Bangladesh foreign minister Morshed Khan.
``We discussed bilateral relations and our willingness to work together for the prosperity of our people and resolving our problems,'' Win Aung said after his meeting with Khan.
Win Aung said his government was committed to repatriating some 20,000 refugees from Myanmar's minority Muslim community, who have been living in camps in southeastern Bangladesh since 1991.
Nearly 250,000 Myanmar Muslims, called Rohingyas, fled across the border into Bangladesh in December 1991 to escape alleged oppression by the Myanmar army. Bureau Report
