Election Commission to meet CEOs on Sept 15
New Delhi, Sept 13: As a prelude to assembly elections, the Election Commission will meet on September 15 chief electoral officers of the five states where polls are slated this year.
New Delhi, Sept 13: As a prelude to assembly elections, the Election Commission will meet on September 15 chief electoral officers of the five states where polls are slated this year.
Chief Election Commissioner J M Lyngdoh and other Election Commissioners T S Krishnamurthy and B B Tandon will review with the CEOs the poll preparations in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Delhi, Chattisgarh and Mizoram.
Besides, the meeting would also take stock of the progress in the issuance of electoral photo identity cards (EPIC) and updating of electoral rolls.
The commission would also have a meeting with the Union Home Secretary Later to discuss the deployment of central paramilitary forces before finalising the poll schedule.
Broadly hinting that the polls might take place sometime in the last week of November or the first week of December, EC sources said that a new assembly should be constituted before December 7 in Mizoram, the date when its term ends.
The term of the Delhi Assembly comes to an end on December 13, followed by Rajasthan on January 3 and Madhya Pradesh and Chattisgarh on January 31 next year.
