Nashville, Jan 26: Plans are under way for another leg of the hugely successful Simon & Garfunkel reunion tour, Billboard.biz reports. The 2003 outing, dubbed Old Friends, wrapped Dec. 21 in Tampa, Fla., having grossed $53 million after playing to 500,000 people. It was the pair's first major tour since 1983.
North American arenas are on hold. Art Garfunkel's manager, John Scher, confirmed that the duo has tentative plans to play more dates, beginning in the latter half of June and running through August. The Everly Brothers would remain as support. "They will play almost exclusively in markets where we have not gone," Scher said. The tour "may go back to a market that was underplayed the first time around," he added. The North American dates could be followed by European shows. There is also a chance for a brief run in Japan.
"It was time to just say forgive and forget and move on," Paul Simon said last fall when the reunion was first announced. "Since we seem to be doing this once every 10 or 12 years, I think this is probably the last time that we're going to do this. The performance and the experience is freighted with the potential for something extraordinary to occur. I hope that will happen."
