Bus services in Andhra Pradesh were paralysed on Monday as about 1.25 lakh employees of the State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) began their indefinite strike from midnight last following failure of talks between the cabinet sub-committee and the joint action committee of employees. More than 19,000 APSRTC buses were off the road in almost all routes. The striking employees were demanding revision of pay scales and improvement of service conditions among other things.
Hundreds of school children and office-goers were seen trekking long distances to reach their destination in the absence of bus services. Auto-rickshaws and private operators did brisk business.
According to police no untoward incident was reported so far. Bureau Report
