New Delhi, Feb 05: Gujarat government today sought Central funding for implementing water resource projects in the state. Speaking at a function to mark freshwater year 2003, state water resource minister Narottambhai Patel said that states' resources were constrained in the absence of Central funds to carry out such projects.
The minister also sought financial assistance for short-term programmes on inter-basin transfer of water within state including construction of check dams.
Patel also demanded due share of water from eastern rivers allocated to India to overcome hardship caused by earthquake and droughts affecting Kachchh region.
The state is implementing a Rs 2500 crore project for surface augmentation of drought-prone north Gujarat. Bureau Report
