New Delhi, Feb 26: A war room has started functioning at the AICC headquarters at 24 Akbar Road as part of the hi-tech preparedness for the forthcoming general elections in the country. The functioning of the hi-tech room, which seeks to link the party headquarters with all the District Congress Committees, has been kept confidential. The basic job of the room is to collect vital information from the district level so that they can be used for several purposes beneficial to the party.
In a circular to the DCCs, AICC general secretary Oscar Fernandes announced that it was decided to set up an IT volunteer task force across the country reporting to AICC covering all DCCs.
This is the first of its kind exercise in the AICC, a top Congress leader said on condition of anonymity.
Under the scheme, all DCCs will have five it volunteers each, in the age group of 21-35 with basic computer knowledge to use ms excel and send e-mail from the web. The party volunteers need not necessarily be an active party worker, but he should at least be a person committed to Congress or a Congress sympathiser.
The circular said these volunteers should be fully available `every day till the counting was over. Bureau Report
