Chandigarh, Feb 18: Haryana Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda demanded dissolution of the state assembly and holding of simultaneous Lok Sabha and assembly elections.
Talking to reporters after the conclusion of the budget session of the assembly, he said simultaneous elections would result in decreasing the poll expenditure. He claimed that Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala had assured him last week that he would dissolve the assembly if the Congress brought a resolution in this regard. The Chief Minister, however, later ''backtracked'' from his assurance, he added. Hooda also accused the Chautala government of adopting a ''dictatorial attitude'' in the assembly proceedings and alleged that the opposition was not allowed to speak in the house. He said the Congress had given notices for five adjournment motions, ten calling attention motions and a resolution but the Speaker allowed only one calling attention motion. The Congress leader alleged that the ruling Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) and its erstwhile ally BJP ''looted'' the state for four years together and were now blaming each other after their alliance had broken. The CLP leader also scotched speculations that his wife Asha Hooda would contest the Lok Sabha elections, saying he did not encourage nepotism. Bureau Report
