When the nominations for the Oscars were being announced, the whole team of Lagaan was at Aamir Khan’s residence. The jubilant film actor and producer of Lagaan, Aamir, shared his feelings with Zee News soon after the film’s nomination to the Oscars’ best foreign language film category. Commenting on the strong points of the film, Aamir in a true patriotic fervor said, “The best wishes of our countrymen are with us”.
He said that they would make an effort to show the film to as many members as possible to increase the chances of winning.
Aamir did not seem to agree with the fact that Indian movies after nomination never get any awards. He refuted, the charge, by saying that Lagaan is the second film, which has been nominated so far. “When films make it to the top five category then it becomes very difficult for the jury to decide because each film is equally good. So to lay it down to something as trivial as being Indian or not, does not matter”, said Aamir
Aamir evaded the question on his future projects and said, “As of now, Lagaan is the only project”. The director of Lagaan, Ashutosh Gowarikar, said that when he made Lagaan, he had international viewers on mind. “But I did not expect the movie to be such a big hit and that it will also make to the Oscars’ nomination,” he said.
