BCCI working committee to meet over bribery controversy
New Delhi, Nov 30: The cricket board`s working committee will meet here today to discuss various aspects of the bribe scandal involving Maharashtra player Abhijit Kale.
New Delhi, Nov 30: The cricket board's working committee will meet here today to discuss various aspects of the bribe scandal involving Maharashtra player Abhijit Kale.
The emergency meeting assumes much significance after a district civil court in Pune revoked the suspension imposed on Kale by the cricket board and allowed him to play first-class matches.
"The meeting will dicuss all the aspects of the issue involving Kale. That will be the main topic," BCCI secretary S K Nair told reporters yesterday.
"The members will be briefed about the incident and the action taken by the president (Jagmohan) Dalmiya. The legal aspects of the issue will also be discussed," he said.
The BCCI has already indicated that it will appeal in the High Court challenging the Pune civil court's order which restrained the cricket board from suspending Kale from playing matches without holding an inquiry into the bribery allegations against him.
The board was awaiting the certified copy of the order from the court which, it felt, had not interpreted the Clause 38 (VII) of the BCCI's rules and regulations properly.
The Clause 38 (VII) of the BCCI rules state that "pending inquiry, the BCCI president can suspend the player until final adjudication".
The meeting will also take stock of the reactions by former BCCI officials and players, many of whom have termed Kale's suspension as "illegal" and the allegations of corruption against selectors by some first class cricketers.
