Jabalpur, Apr 26: A local court has allowed withdrawal of pending criminal cases against Union Civil Supplies Minister Sharad Yadav and 66 others after considering the petition filed by the state government expressing its desire not to prosecute further. District and sessions judge A N S Shrivastava gave the judgement on the state government's petition yesterday after it being rejected by first class judicial magistrate U K Singh earlier.
According to prosecution, on September 16, 1983 during Jabalpur bandh charges of attempted murder under Section 307 147, 148, 149 (rioting with common object) and 427 IPC were levelled against Yadav who was then a student leader along with his associates Raghu Thakur, Nati Sharma and others.
The Lordganj police registered cases against all of them for indulging in heavy stoning, attempted murder and other criminal offences.
The judicial magistrate issued several warrants against the minister where criminal proceedings were pending for his presence in the court but Yadav did not respond and attend the court.
Later the state government resolved to withdraw these pending cases against Yadav and others and asked the public prosecutor P K Tiwari to put up a withdrawal petition. Bureau Report
