Sept 20: Russ Ortiz pitched a three-hitter and drove in the only run as the Atlanta Braves beat the Florida Marlins 1-0 Defeat for the Marlins means they are overtaken in the race for the NL wild card by Philadelphia, who beat Cincinnati 7-3. Ortiz (20-7) reached 20 wins for the first time in his career and achieved his second career shut-out.

Florida's Josh Beckett (8-8) surrendered just six hits in seven innings and struck out nine but still ended up losing. Mike Lieberthal was the architect of Philadelphia's win, homering twice and driving in four runs as the Phillies moved a half-game ahead of Florida.


Randy Wolf (16-9) won his fourth straight decision, giving up two runs and four hits in six innings. He worked around four walks, striking out eight.

Wolf was aided by a three-run first inning. Marlon Byrd and Bobby Abreu were on with walks when Lieberthal homered off Josh Hall (0-1).
