Indore, July 20: With a view to keep architectural and historical importance of the country's monuments intact, Rajwada, the seat of holkars of Indore, has attained its past glory through public participation and an initiative taken by an NGO. "The initiative is an example for archaeologically protected monuments in the country as it succeeded in restoring glory of historical edifice, besides ensuring that in the process its historical importance did not alter," the brain behind the initiative, Indore collector Mohammad Suleiman, told news agencies here today.

The upkeep of historical monuments is a challenging task and Rajwada, which was constructed by holkars nearly 200 years ago as their seat of power, was in bad shape mainly due to lack of funds and general neglect, he said.

However, once the initiative was launched to restore its past glory, large number of people came forward with contributions, Suleiman said. Soon NGO Indore Gourav Foundation (IGF) collected over Rs one crore for the purpose, he said.
IGF member and social worker Anil Bhandari said that Rajwada occupies a special place in the minds of the people of Indore.
