Nyon, Mar 22: UEFA Appeals Body have turned down on Friday (March 19) an appeal by the Football Association of Wales who wanted to be awarded a place at Euro 2004 after Russian midfielder Yegor Titov failed a drugs test. UEFA banned the player after he tested positive for a banned stimulant after Russia's playoff match against Wales in November in Moscow.
Wales drew the first leg 0-0 in Moscow, a match Titov did not play in. However, he played in the second leg which Russia won 1-0. UEFA Communications Director William Gaillard said that the Appeals Body based its decision in particular on the failure by the Welsh FA to present evidence of any implication of the Football Union of Russia in the alleged doping infringement.
