Guwahati, Oct 31: The All Adivasi Students Association of Assam opposing the deployment of Army in Hindustan Lever Ltd tea gardens and Khobang has demanded
withdrawal of the troops from the estates.
The deployment of the army was "further exploitation of the workers in the tea gardens in Assam," AASAA said in a release today.
The troops were deployed in the HLL gardens following the banned Ulfa serving an extortion demand note of Rs two crore on the tea major recently, as well as Khobang following the killing of five labourers in police firing. The AASAA also accused the government of failing to provide compensation to the victims' families of Khobang, Paneri and Chapai police firings on irate garden labourers.
