Taipei, Feb 11: A moderate earthquake hit southern Taiwan today, the Central Weather Bureau said, but no immediate damage or casualties were reported. The 4.4-magnitude tremor hit at 1105 hrs (0835ist) in Kaohsiung County and was barely felt outside of the region, the bureau said. Earthquakes frequently rattle the island, but mostly without major damage or casualties. However, in September 1999, a 7.6-magnitude earthquake killed more than 2,300 people. Bureau Report
