Bomb blasts rocked the main city in Indonesia's eastern Moluccas a day after a peace pact was signed, aiming to halt three years of fighting between Muslims and Christians. Senior officials in Jakarta condemned the violence, urging on Thursday that the incidents should not be interpreted as signs the peace agreement would fail.
Police in the ravaged city of Ambon, about 2,300 km (1,400 miles) east of Jakarta, said there were two blasts. The leading Kompas daily had said four explosions were heard during the night.

"The situation is now calm and under control," an Ambon police official told Reuters by telephone. "Yes, there were two bomb blasts last night...(but) they left no victims," he said. Police were investigating, he added. Bureau Report
