"It was the beginning of hell. Like six, seven, eight months of torture, trying to figure out this big secret," the 46-year-old singer said in the August issue of Harper's Bazaar, reports News.com.au.

The 'Misery' singer and her husband of 13 years Gavin Rossdale called it quits last summer, but it was in February 2015 when she first confronted the 50-year-old musician over his cheating with her.

Stefani further said that she took the shelter of songwriting and spirituality to help her through the trying time.

"What happened was praying. That's my childhood, that's how I was raised. And I think I strayed from that. But you know when it gets that bad, you just get desperate? You're on your knees. You're like, 'What do I do?' You can't even go to your parents and ask them what to do," she said.

Looks like it was this higher power, who granted the mom of three much deserved solitude in the form of her 'Voice' co-star Blake Shelton. The pair confirmed their unexpected romance in November.

"And then it was just like everything flipped. It went from horrible to, like hopeful, and like, 'Wow, God, you just don't know what's gonna happen next.'" she explained.

As reported by ET, Stefani has filed legal documents in a Los Angeles Superior Court last month to officially drop Rossdale from her last name.

According to the documents, the pop star has requested that her name be restored to Gwen Renee Stefani.
