Hyderabad, Apr 27: Strongly advocating formation of smaller states, union agriculture minister Ajit Singh today extended his support to Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), which has launched a people's movement demanding separate statehood for Telangana region of Andhra Pradesh. "Creation of smaller states on the demand of the people is not a new process. Earlier also smaller states were created in other regions", he told reporters at the airport here.

"Justice Fazal Ali commission had also recommended creation of smaller states. But, somehow the recommendation was overlooked," he said.

Stating that "the NDA government-led by BJP is also in favour of smaller states", the minister said, "People will get an opportunity to put their grievances before the government effectively in smaller states."

Singh, who arrived here from Mumbai, later left for Warangal by helicopter to attend a public meeting organised by TRS.
