New Delhi, Feb 20: Canadian explorer Niko Resources Ltd has struck more natural gas reserves in its Surat block in onshore Gujarat. "We have completed testing of NS-4, the sixth well drilled on the Surat block. A commingled cased hole drill stem test over three 5-meter intervals, between 199 and 233 meters, flowed 2.66 million cubic feet per day," company sources said. NS-4 marks the fourth gas discovery on the Surat block and further defines a large structural closure of 15 square kilometers in extent.

"Plans are well underway for a multi-well appraisal drilling programme to start immediately upon regulatory approval," they said.

Earlier, the 4th well tested 1.4 mmcf/day from a shallow horizon while the 5th well flowed a total of 2.4 mmcf/day from three separate shallow zones. The 3D seismic indicates that the shallow play covers a 15 square kilometer area. The first two exploratory wells had also encountered hydrocarbons. Flow rate from Bheema-1, the second well, totaled 16 million cubic feet per day of sweet dry gas, sources said adding that the third well did not encounter economic quantities of gas.

However, the exact quantity of reserves was yet to be established, they said. Niko has 100 per cent interest in the 419-sq km cb-onn-2000/2 block near Surat adjacent to its trillion cubic feet Hazira gas field in Gujarat.
