Jamshedpur, Mar 30: A village chief was killed and his son seriously injured by activists of Maoist Communist Centre at Samatha village of Jharkhand's West Singhbhum district, police sources said today. A group of MCC ultras raided the house of village chief Chandan Sandil on Friday night and beat him to death accusing Sandil of being a police informer, the sources said.
Sandil's 35-year-old son, who rushed to rescue his father was severely thrashed by the ultras, they said.
He was admitted to hospital in serious condition. The incident came close on the heels of gunning down of a Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha leader Rajendra Singh in Manoharpur last week. The attack was suspected to have been carried out by the naxal group, they said.
The East Singhbhum district police may very soon launch a joint combing operation with neighbouring West Bengal Police in the extremist-hit belt of the district in the wake of recent incidents, the sources said. The combing operation may commence within a day or two in Dumaria, Ghorabandha and Potka police station areas bordering Orissa and West Bengal, they said.
People's War Group ultras, active in these areas of the district in recent times, used to sneak into the bordering areas of Orissa and Bengal after committing crimes in the district, they added. Bureau Report
