Bhubaneswar, Mar 03: Senior BJP leader and Union Agriculture Minister Rajnath Singh today alleged that Congress and other Opposition parties were trying to make the 'Bharat Uday Yatra' of Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani an election issue to foment ''communal tensions'' in the country. Singh said the Congress and the other parties were criticising the proposed yatra as they have no other issues to counter the acheivements of the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre.
The senior BJP leader, who arrived here yesterday on a two-day campaign trip, told newspersons at the airport on his way back to Delhi that the Congress was trying to make a ''non-issue'' into an election issue.
He said there were no differences between Congress president Sonia Gandhi's road show and the Bharat Uday Yatra of Advani. ''We wanted to reach the people to apprise them of the achievements of the NDA government under the leadership of A B Vajpayee through Bharat Uday Yatra and public meetings,'' he said, on the Opposition parties' decision to move the Election Commisssion urging it to put a ban on the Bharat Uday Yatra, Singh said, ''I think the Election Commission will never interfere in it as the Bharat Uday Yatra is part of an election campaign of the party”.
