New Delhi, Mar 03: The Opposition today flayed the home ministry`s harassment of the Bengalis in Delhi suburbs under the garb of tackling the problem of illegal migrants and demanded that the government convene a meeting of MPs of border states to discuss the problem. Raising the issue in the Lok Sabha during the Zero Hour, Priyaranjan Dasmunsi said scores of Bengalis have been arrested and tortured by the Gurgaon and Noida police in the name of tackling illegal migrants from Bangladesh. Bengali Hindus are given Islamic and Christian names by the police and taken into custody, he said. Dasmunsi warned that if these operations are not suspended, a wrong message would go to the people of West Bengal. Somnath Chatterjee (CPI-M) also supported Dasmunsi`s contention and demanded that home minister L K Advani convene a meeting of MPs from West Bengal and adjoining states to discuss the issue. Both Chatterjee and Dasmunsi said they had written to the home minister about the harassment but he did not respond to them. Parliamentary affairs minister Vijay Goel assured the House that he would take up the matter with the home ministry.
