Srinagar, June 12: After a brief lull, the militant attacks on the armed forces and paramilitary troops in Jammu and Kashmir will be intensified from June 26, senior BSF official said today.

Militants have put up posters in South Kashmir saying they would intensify activities from June 26. They have even advised people to complete their social engagements like marriage before that, DIG R S Bhullar told reporters at a medical camp organised by BSF. Bhullar said the militants are lying low for the time being due to international pressure on Pakistan and subsequent orders from their leaders across the LoC.

There has been a definite decrease in infiltration and only ten militants belonging to HM sneaked in between June 1-9, he said.

“We have intercepted some messages, which suggest that around 90 militants have sneaked in showing that infiltration is still continuing,” he said. On the likely intensification of militant activities, Bhullar said LeT and Hizbul Mujahideen would be in the lead with cadre strength of 525 and 975 respectively.

The manpower and infrastructure of the two organisations is still intact and they can strike when they want, he said adding other organisations including JeM did not have the penetrating power.

Bhullar said LeT and Hizbul have formed around ten special groups to target the Amarnath Yatra but troops have been deployed in large numbers and sanitisation of the area will be started very soon to combat any situation. He said there was no notable militant action since the killing of Hurriyat Conference leader Abdul Gani Lone.
