Curfew has been clamped in some parts of Sangli town of Maharashtra following incidents of arson and stone-throwing by a mob which went on rampage after three domes at the Idgah maidan on old Budhgaon road were painted in safforn by some unidentified miscreants on Wednesday.
Twenty vehicles were damaged in stone-pelting, district superintendent of police, Ritesh Kumar said on Thursday.
"The situation in the town is tense but under control. If needed, the curfew would be extended till night," the official said, adding, police and Rapid Action Force (RAF) were patrolling the sensitive spots in the district.
Fifty-two people have been arrested in this connection, Kumar said.
Reports from Miraj town, about 60 kms from here, said police were taking necessary steps to maintain peace in the sensitive town. Bureau Report
