Beijing, Nov 05: China, which took over the rotating presidency of the UN Security Council, today assured the international community that it would adopt a "fair and just" attitude while attempting to resolve pressing issues like Iraq, Afghanistan and the middle east. "While chairing the UNSC in November, China will make the work of this month successful by observing the rules of procedure, chairing relevant consultations with a fair and just attitude, listening to opinions from all sides, increasing transparency, and solving all issues on agenda through thorough negotiations," Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Kong Quan said.
Kong made the remarks here at a regular press conference in response to a question on what role China would play when acting as the rotating president of the 15-member Security Council this month. He said the Security Council faces onerous tasks this month, and major work is required to continue deliberating the Iraq issue.
"As chairman, China will maintain close contacts with all parties and promote consensus among the members through consultations, so that the UN nuclear weapon inspectors can return to Iraq and begin their work and the issue be solved politically at an early date," he added. Bureau Report
