Tranquebar, Oct 29: Under the National Savings and Relief Scheme for Fishermen (2003-04), members of fishermen cooperative societies will get Rs 300 per month as assistance during the lean period from September to December.

Relief Scheme for Fishermen (2003-04), members of fishermen
cooperative societies will get Rs 300 per month as assistance
during the lean period from September to December.
According to a press release issued by the Nagai District
Collector, the amount will be given to members who had
remitted Rs 75 per month from January-August this year.
For the amount of Rs 600 paid by them totally over a period of eight months, they get back Rs 1,200 in return during the lean period.
From the 47 fishermen cooperative societies in the district, a sum of Rs 1.68 crore had been collected from 28,000 members this year. State and union governments had jointly contributed an equal amount. District Collector Veerashanmugamani inaugurated the assistance distribution recently.
