Chennai, Aug 19: A lawyer today moved the Madras High Court seeking a direction to the Tamil Nadu government to prosecute those interferring with the screening of Tamil movie "Baba" starring matinee idol Rajnikant.
In a petition filed in the High Court, state president of TNCC lawyers' wing A P Surayaprakasam alleged that some elements, through violent methods, were creating a fear psychosis against watching the film, which was released countrywide on August 15.
"I submit that a fear psychosis has been already created by that violent group who are openly challenging the fundamental rights of citizens to watch the film 'Baba' without any fear", he said.
Instead of treating the acts of anti-social elements as a challenge to democratic values and public governance, the authorities concerned, who had a primary duty to protect the fundamental rights of people, were looking at it as merely a law and order problem, the petitioner contended.
He alleged that some unruly elements in the state, showing scant regard to the rule of law and taking the law into their hands, were openly violating the citizens' right to freedom of expression by resorting to violence.
