Security in and around the Gyanvapi mosque and the famous Baba Kashi Vishwanath temple, which are adjacent to each other, will be beefed up with deployment of security personnel armed with sophisticated weapons.
This was decided at a high-level meeting presided over by Union Home Secretary Kamal Pande and attended by UP Home Secretary Kishan Singh Atoriya, state DGP R K Pandit, CRPF DGP Trinath Mishra and other senior officials here Friday.
The meeting was held in view of the terrorist attack on Raghunath Temple in Jammu recently.
Earlier, the senior officials visited the temple.
Pandey said periodic rehearsal by security personnel would also be conducted in and around the mosque and temple premises and all security requirements will be fulfilled. Referring to Gujarat, he said the situation in Ahmedabad was now well under control.
He said it was due to the government's long-term strategy to combat communal riots that it did not spread to any other state except a few places in Maharashtra. Bureau Report
