New Delhi, June 27: The south-west monsoon is very close to Delhi while it has covered the whole of Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir and northern parts of Punjab and Haryana, meteorological office here said. "We are keeping a close watch. Many areas in Delhi have received showers today, but we are calling them pre-monsoon showers," Dr R D Singh of the Indian Meteorological Department's Safdarjung office said here today.

"There are many parameters like rain quantity and spatial distribution which are to be met before it is declared as monsoon," Singh said.

The monsoon has entered nearby areas such as Kanpur, Dehradun, Chandigarh and Amritsar, Singh said adding more rain/thundershowers are expected in Delhi, east UP, Uttaranchal and Himachal Pradesh in the next two days.
Rain is also expected at a few places in Haryana, West UP, Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir.

"There have been rains in west up, but amount is less. We are waiting for reports," Onkari Prasad of the IMD said adding for Delhi monsoon was likely in 2-3 days time. Normal date for monsoon entry in Delhi is June 29.

The officials said that the June rainfall for the country as a whole has been better than during the same period last year and above normal.

"In the south, rain has been very good along the west coast but interior parts have received less rain. This is the usual pattern," Prasad said.
