In a controversial decision, the government on Friday ordered transfer of three joint directors of the Central Bureau of Investigations, ignoring the recommendations of the investigating agency as also the Central Vigilance Commission.
Two of them were carrying out investigations in very high-profile cases including the deportation of Aftab Ansari, prime accused in the attack on the American centre in Kolkata, from Dubai.

The cabinet committee on appointments chaired by Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee turned down the recommendations that the three officers -- M S Bali, Neeraj Kumar and J K Dutta -- be allowed to continue in the investigating agency for another year, official sources said.
Bali, a 1976 batch IPS from the Uttar Pradesh cadre, was credited with carrying out a crusade against corruption by arresting chairman of the central board of excise and customs B P Verma and chief commissioner of Central Excise (Delhi) Someshwar Mishra.
Kumar, also a 1976 batch IPS official from union territory cadre, was in the midst of investigations into the ISI's network being spread in the country through the underworld which came to light after deportation of Ansari from Dubai earlier this month.
