Vatican City, Dec 21: Pope John Paul II said he was concerned about the threat of war breaking out "with renewed virulence" in the coming year, in a Christmas greeting delivered to Vatican bodies today. Addressing the Roman Curia, the various dicasteries and councils of the holy see, the pontiff expressed his "concern for the conflicts which bloody so many regions of the world and for those which threaten to explode with renewed virulence."
The 82-year-old Pope also reiterated his concern over the conflict in the middle east and other "forgotten" wars which do not make world headlines, as well as the ever-present threat of terrorism.
"The situation in the holy land remains emblematic, but other 'forgotten' wars are no less devastating," he said. “Terrorism also continues to sow new victims, and to dig more graves."
John Paul II's address came as part of a traditional exchange of Christmas greetings at the Vatican.
He said this Christmas was "a particularly significant one for me," as it marked his 25th as Pope. Bureau Report
