New Delhi, Dec 19: CBI has begun consultations with the Portuguese authorities for extradition of the underworld don and main accused in the 1993 serial bomb blast case in Mumbai, Abu Salem, who is under judicial custody in Lisbon. A senior CBI official, who arrived in Lisbon, handed over the formal extradition request to the Portuguese authorities through the Indian mission there, official sources said here.
The CBI has listed Salem`s involvement in three CBI cases including Mumbai bomb blasts, four cases with Delhi Police and two cases registered against him by the Mumbai police, in the extradition request.

CBI official alongwith the diplomats at Indian mission was holding talks with the Portuguese authorities in Lisbon where the CBI has also handed over an executive assurance of not sentencing Salem, if convicted, to death.
Salem, wanted by India in 71 cases of murder, extortion, forgery and criminal intimidation, was arrested in Lisbon on September 18 along with Bollywood actress and his girlfriend Monica Bedi following a red corner notice issued by the Interpol at the behest of the CBI. Bureau Report
