Security in the temple town has been beefed up with deployment of additional security forces at all important temples and bathing ghats in view of Ram Navmi mela on Sunday. All necessary security measures and precautionary steps have been taken against any possible misadventure by terrorist outfits during the mela, inspector general of police Harbhajan Singh told reporters.

Twelve companies of CRPF, 13 companies of PAC, including one company of River Police, have been deployed in the temple town, he said. Three ASPs and 11 DySPs have been posted in the area. Special arrangements have been made for the smooth movement of traffic.

Singh said Close Circuit TVs have been installed at all important temples--Kanak Bhawan, Hanuman Garhi and Ram Janmabhoomi complex--and bathing ghats and anti-riot police and bomb disposal units deployed at sensitive places. Adequate police personnel have been posted at the entry points at Naya Ghat crossing on national highway, railway and bus stations, he said, adding movement of vehicles were not being allowed to enter the mela area from Saturday.

The main Ram Navmi function will be held at the famous Kanak Bhawan temple on Sunday to celebrate the birth of Lord Ram. Religious and cultural programmes would be held at different temples to mark the occasion.
