New Delhi, Aug 18: Drawing curtains on a 10 year-old litigation relating to alleged mismanagement in the famous Kerala temple - Guruvayoor Devaswom, the supreme court today cautioned the high courts not to entertain PILs without following the broad guideline laid down by it. This ruling was given by a bench comprising Chief Justice V N Khare, Justice S B Sinha and Justice G P Mathur while disposing of a petition filed by Guruvayur Devswom Managing Committee without disturbing orders of the Kerala High Court on a PIL alleging irregularities in the temple management. "The state admittedly implemented many of the suggestions of the High Court. They would not be reopened," the bench said and added that "We must compliment the high court about the gigantic task undertaken by it leading to discovery of a number of irregularities in the matter of management of temple. "The judgement of the high court would prove to be an eye-opener to the state and now onwards will be able to fulfil the hopes and aspirations of millions of devotees of Lord Krishna," justice Sinha, writing for the bench, said.


Reiterating the 11-point guideline of the apex court on PILs, Justice Sinha quoted a numerous judgements including the Balco case and said though it was not the "last words" of the court on PIL it "may be considered to be in the nature of a guidelines for entertaining PILs. Bureau Report
